Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher: Mamma mia!

Picking up the gauntlet thrown down so elegantly by Helen Mirren and “The Queen,” Meryl Streep is in talks to play former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady,” with Jim Broadbent playing her husband Denis. Phyllida Lloyd, who previously teamed with Streep for “Mamma Mia,” is slated to direct the film, which would be shot later this year. Several thoughts come to mind here: a) Pairing Streep with the great Broadbent should be genius; b) Can’t you hear the accent already?; and c) Wouldn’t it be even better if the Iron Lady occasionally burst into an ABBA song, such as, oh, “Waterloo”?
