A poll, as the holiday movies approach

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” madness is definitely among us, with J.K. Rowling muttering things at premieres about how she might just write another Potter book in a decade or so, and various franchise stars showing up on red carpets looking mildly Demented, and emails from random publicists showing up in my inbox alerting me to the fact that 800 screenings have already sold out for “Deathly Hallows” and that only 14% of moviegoers think “Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix” is the best movie of the franchise, which is nonsense. Anyway. I haven’t seen “Deathly Hallows” yet — check back with me after Monday night if you’re curious — so let’s just let the Hogwarts gang calm down for a moment, and think about other movies coming during this holiday season. I’m looking forward to re-watching “Black Swan,” “The King’s Speech” and “Rabbit Hole” (all seen at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this fall), and am most curious, sight unseen, about Sofia Coppola’s “Somewhere,” the Coen brothers’ “True Grit,” and Julie Taymor’s “The Tempest.” Let’s take a poll — and, a happy weekend to all.
