Happy birthday, Dick Van Dyke

(In unrelated news, in answer to those who were asking about a Seattle release date for “Blue Valentine,” currently I am told that it is simply “January TBD” until further notice. Will pass along a more specific date when I get one. Sorry I wasn’t able to reply in the comments; the thread had closed by the time I got to it.)
Today is the 85th birthday of actor Dick Van Dyke, and it must be a bittersweet day for him: The longtime song-and-dance man had planned to open a one-man show, “Step in Time! A Musical Memoir,” in Los Angeles this week, but last week had to announce its cancellation due to an injury. “Perhaps there will be an opportunity to revisit this sometime in the future,” said Van Dyke in a statement, “but in the meantime, I thank everyone for their understanding and support.” A shame, but surely those of us who remember Van Dyke’s swift-footed dancing and endearingly awful British accent in “Mary Poppins” from our childhoods might want to take a minute to wish him well today. Here’s a reminder.
