Jacques d’Amboise and “Birth of the Blues”

I’ve been reading the newly published memoirs of dancer Jacques d’Amboise, a legendary star of New York City Ballet who had a brief movie career in the 1950s that included “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” “Carousel,” and a movie I’ve never seen, “The Best Things in Life Are Free.” Browsing on YouTube, I found this number from that movie, set to the great song “Birth of the Blues” (sung by Gordon MacRae) and sizzlingly danced by d’Amboise and Sheree North. Makes for a nice, jazzy little break in the day, doesn’t it?
