“A Visit From the Goon Squad” coming to HBO

Yesterday I finally bought a copy of Jennifer Egan’s “A Visit from the Goon Squad,” the novel that won the Pulitzer Prize earlier this week (and numerous other honors since its publication last year). Haven’t started it yet — had to finish “Water for Elephants,” which I have to say is better than the movie — but I’m looking forward to it; anyone read it? And today I see that HBO has snapped up the property as a TV series, which is interesting. When’s the last time you heard of a novel being made into a TV series (as opposed to a movie), on HBO or anywhere?
Speaking of reading, ever since I interviewed Michael Connelly last month for “The Lincoln Lawyer,” I’ve gotten mildly obsessed with his books, which are addictive. And I just started A.S. Byatt’s latest, “The Children’s Book,” which reminded me of the terrible movie adaptation of her wonderful book “Posession.” So many books, so many movies, so little time . . .
