Popcorn & Prejudice: A Movie Blog

An unfortunate “Fast Five” side effect — plus, a peek at Moore as Palin

Since I last blogged about 24 hours ago, I’ve been to four movies (“Everything Must Go,” “Fast Five,” “Beginners” and “Queen to Play,” all of which had something to recommend), and am off to a fifth (“Prom”) in a couple of hours. This is, I am sorry to say, a lot of popcorn and a lot of plotlines running together. But last night’s screening of “Fast Five” had a few unique aspects — not the least of which is that I’ve never before been handed a movie-themed car deodorant when entering the theater. I enjoyed the movie, which has some pretty great stunts (can it really be possible to steal a sports car from a speeding train? apparently so), but there’s a downside: As I left the theater, paid for my parking (you imagine the “Fast Five” guys have never paid for parking in their lives) and climbed into my 12-year-old VW Beetle, I must say I felt insufficiently badass. Driving home never felt so mundane.
On an entirely separate note, if you’ve been wondering what Julianne Moore would look like as Sarah Palin in the upcoming HBO movie “Game Change,” wonder no more. Not bad, though I still think Tina Fey’s a little closer.
