“Star Trek 2” finally moving forward

It’s been more than two years since J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” was a summer hit — and, for a few of us, a splendid introduction to a world where no one had gone before. (Well, I hadn’t gone there, anyway. That’s why I didn’t review the movie, as the “Star Trek” world was quite mysterious to me. Loved the movie, though, particularly Zachary Quinto’s Spock.) Since then, there’s been plenty of speculation as to when the sequel might appear, and several release dates (most prominently June 2012) were floated, then given to other movies. Now Vulture (on New York Magazine’s site) confirms that Abrams has finally committed to the movie, with the screenplay being finished this month and shooting beginning this winter. No release date was mentioned; my best guess would be summer 2013.
In the meantime, to tide you over, here are some jolly outtakes from “Star Trek,” including a rather charming sequence in which Spock is revealed to be, I think, Irish.
