Steve Martin’s Oscar-hosting advice to Eddie Murphy

Today on his website www.stevemartin.com, Steve Martin offers some tongue-in-cheek advice about hosting the Oscars; a subject he knows a few things about. Martin and Murphy go way back; they co-starred in 1999’s “Bowfinger” (which Martin refers to here as “the movie we did together that stands alone in comedy history, for which we got no credit or acknowledgement except for large paychecks and drivers and any type of food we wanted delivered to us every day in our really nice trailers”). Martin reminds Murphy to “relax and have fun while 12,000 livebloggers rip you to shreds” and concludes with this wise advice:

If you feel tired midway through, give Neil Patrick Harris a Red Bull and throw some sheet music at him.

I’m off for a few days, heading out to the Port Townsend Film Festival — so in the meantime, talk amongst yourself. What advice would you give Eddie Murphy? Be funny? Decline the gig? Watch lots of videotape of Billy Crystal or Johnny Carson? See you next week.
