Jessica Chastain as Princess Di?

Just while we’re all still wondering who will play Princess Grace in an upcoming biopic comes word of another bit of princess casting: Anne Thompson announces on her IndieWire blog that Jessica Chastain, recently seen in everything from “The Help” to “The Debt” to “The Tree of Life,” will play the late Diana, Princess of Wales in “Caught in Flight.” The film, about the princess’s secret affair with a heart surgeon, will be directed by German filmmaker Oliver Hirschbiegel (“Downfall,” “Das Experiment”) and will begin production early next year. Hmm. I’ve no doubt that Chastain could play the princess — based on what she’s shown us lately, she could play just about anyone. But it seems odd to cast an American in such an iconic role, no? If you thought the uproar over “Bridget Jones” was something (and yes, it was, back in the day), this sounds potentially even louder. We shall see.
