A new Tim Burton project, and other news

(Not exactly news, but nonetheless: Today I think I set a personal record for watching a movie early in the morning. I’m getting a little swamped by all the Thanksgiving releases, a couple of which were sent to me on DVD, and the only time it made sense to watch “London Boulevard,” a gangster drama starring Colin Farrell, was first thing this morning. Which translated to 7 a.m., in my bathrobe. I’ve done plenty of 8 a.m. screenings — the Toronto Film Festival is full of them — but 7 is a tad early, particularly for movies involving a lot of guns and blood. Good movie, though. My cat seemed to enjoy it too.)
Anyway. Tim Burton continues his impeccable way of finding, well, Tim Burton-ish projects; next up for him may well be “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” a book that looks so quirkily creepy it could well be written by Tim Burton, except it isn’t. (Wow, getting up really early does funny things to my sentences.) The book, by Ransom Riggs (which seems like a name Tim Burton would invent), is about a mysterious orphanage filled with peculiar and quite possibly dangerous children. The main character is a 16-year-old boy, who will no doubt be played by Johnny Depp. Just kidding.
In casting news, looks like Channing Tatum just might be “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” , Felicity Jones (currently quite charming in “Like Crazy”) will play a lead role in Warren Beatty’s upcoming Howard Hughes movie (which is not called “The Aviator”), and Miss Piggy, who showed up at a premiere for “The Muppets” this week wearing “Jeremy Scott and Louboutins,” is clearly looking for work. Hmm. Could they squeeze her into “Breaking Dawn, Part 2”?
