Pixar’s “Up” inspires dreams — and a house

Interesting little story I came across today: A California couple were so inspired by the 2009 Pixar movie “Up” (and who among us didn’t love that movie?) that they bought a rainbow-hued house in a Utah subdivision that looks just like the house in the movie, right down to “Carl and Ellie” painted on the mailbox. You can see pictures of the house — which is, frankly, adorable — here and here. But alas, trouble is brewing: Some neighbors are complaining that the house doesn’t fit in, and should be repainted in earth tones. “We would like to not have to see multi-colors as we look out our windows,” said a neighbor, whose name is not Scrooge but who sounds like he could play the part. Really? On this gray Seattle day, I think it’d be delightful to look out the window and see the “Up” house, balloons or not. This is a pretty extreme example of life imitating movies, but I hope the homeowners — and color and whimsy — prevail. SQUIRREL!
