When to expect “A Separation,” “Pina,” and other nominees

This morning’s announcement brought, as usual, a number of titles that we haven’t yet seen on Seattle-area marquees. Here are a few with upcoming dates (which are tentative; movie release dates are ever-changeable), by category; I’ll update this post as I get more information.
Best animated feature: “Chico and Rita” opens here Feb. 24 at a Landmark theater. “A Cat in Paris” does not currently have a local release date, to my knowledge; “Kung Fu Panda 2,” “Puss in Boots” and “Rango” all opened theatrically in 2011.
Best documentary feature: “Pina” arrives February 10 at Cinerama. “Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory” is currently available on HBO on demand; it will likely not have a theatrical release here. “Hell and Back Again” and “If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front” both played here in 2011; “Undefeated” does not currently have a local release date.
Best foreign language film: “A Separation” arrives at the Egyptian February 3. “In Darkness” is currently scheduled to open here March 9. The other three nominated films — “Bullhead,” “Footnote,” and “Monsieur Lazhar” do not currently have Seattle release dates, to my knowledge; stay tuned, as generally an Oscar nomination tends to result in a flurry of theatrical dates.
