The other day I heard an ad on the radio that was pushing a travel package for the London Olympics this summer, and it referred to the event as “the real ‘Hunger Games’.” Well, yes, except that most of the competitors are adults, and they’re participating voluntarily, and nobody’s fighting to the death (although that would certainly enliven events like synchronized swimming), and generally the participants can expect to go home and resume their lives when it’s over, and there are actual sports involved, and . . . well, otherwise, the Olympics are exactly like “The Hunger Games,” right? Right?
