Cannes Film Festival lineup announced

The big grand-pere of film festivals announced its lineup this morning, and among the notable films screening in competition are Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” (which will open the festival, and arrive in U.S. theaters in May); Jacques Audiard’s thriller “Rust & Bone,” starring Marion Cotillard; David Cronenberg’s drama “Cosmopolis,” starring Robert Pattinson; Lee Daniels’ thriller “The Paperboy,” based on the novel by Pete Dexter; Michael Haneke’s “Amour,” starring his frequent muse Isabelle Huppert; and Walter Salles’ Beat Generation drama “On the Road.” Screening out of competition will be Philip Kaufman’s “Hemingway and Gellhorn,” starring Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman,” and Bernardo Bertolucci’s first feature in nearly a decade, “Io E Te” (Me and You) — which marks his 50th anniversary as a filmmaker. The Cannes Film Festival begins May 16, and last year launched the fortunes of “Midnight in Paris”; let’s see what this year’s favorites will be.
