‘The Killing’ lumbers to its finale

People are still asking me about “The Killing,” the show that I quite publicly fell out of love with last season (along with a lot of you). The finale, in which we are apparently finally going to be told who the hell killed poor Rosie Larson, is coming up on Sunday, but I have to admit I’ve been watching the show pretty sporadically this season, and so every time I turn it on I get confused. Why is Linden in a mental institution, and how’d she get out so fast? Why does Richmond look so healthy and out-and-about when he just underwent major surgery after a bullet severed his spinal cord, oh, mere days ago? Is Holder truly a bad cop, or just an incompetent one — and for that matter, why are most of the characters on this show fairly incompetent? (At least now we know why they all still use flip phones.) Is the older one of The Boys (sorry, can’t ever remember those kids’ names) on the road to becoming a serial killer? Does Linden have anything in her closet other than bulky turtlenecks?
Anyway, if you, like me, have been off-and-on in following this second season, Willa Paskin over at Salon has created a most excellent primer, which answered a lot of my questions (though not the one about Linden’s wardrobe). Check it out here. Meanwhile, I’ve had Gwen as the killer, from the very first episode of the first season, though I really couldn’t explain why. We’ll see.
