Watch: Shirley MacLaine and Maggie Smith on ‘Downton Abbey.’ Oooh!

Many thanks to alert P & P reader Lurgidbee, who sent this link, which provides proof that no, the earth did not self-implode when Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham (Maggie Smith) met her daughter-in-law’s mother, Mrs. Martha Levinson (Shirley MacLaine), on an upcoming episode of “Downton Abbey.” Alas, the clip is jittery and blurry, and that freaking “Downton Abbey” theme music is trying its best to drown both ladies out, but we learn from this that a) Mrs. Levinson (is there a Mr. Levinson? Who shall we cast? Not Jack Nicholson, surely) is a stylish lady with marvelous taste in hats, b) that she has been to Downton Abbey before, and c) that she does not mince words. And now I must go lie down in a Downton Abbey-induced swoon. Season 3 cannot come fast enough.
