Just singin’, and typin’, in the rain

It’s raining again (here in Seattle, anyway), and I’m about to take a few days off; back here, gazing at the gray skies, on Thursday. So it seems appropriate to post a cheery clip, and what could be cheerier than Gene Kelly in “Singin’ in the Rain”? And it’s timely: The great Stanley Donen movie musical is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. On July 12, there’ll be special screenings of the film in a handful of local theaters, presented by Turner Classic Movies and featuring an exclusive interview with Debbie Reynolds. (I interviewed Ms. Reynolds a decade ago — she insisted that I call her “Debbie” — in honor of the 50th anniversary. She was, as you might expect, delightful.) And the first Blu-Ray edition of the film will be released July 17. A major milestone, for a movie — and a moment, on that rainy sidewalk — that’s forever young. See you next week; enjoy the holiday.
