“The Hunger Games” casting news

This news has been floating around a bit, but just got confirmed: Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman (“Capote”) has joined the cast of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” in the role of Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee. (Seems like it would be a fun party game to make these names up, doesn’t it?) The film, in which Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Laurence) faces the 75th annual Hunger Games — and no, I don’t know what happens because I haven’t read the book yet; don’t tell me! — will be released November 22, 2013. Hoffman just finished a Broadway run of “Death of a Salesman” and will be seen next in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Scientology film “The Master”; his presence should add even more luster to this franchise’s top-rank supporting cast, which also includes Donald Sutherland, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson and Stanley Tucci. For those fascinated by the ongoing “Hunger Games” casting process — or the fact that characters in the upcoming movie are named Gloss and Cashmere, which sounds like what Jennifer Lopez should have named her twins — you can visit this website, full of intriguing to-be-cast shadows.
