A quiet word

It doesn’t seem right to natter on about movies today; instead, I’m going to pause for a moment, to think of those people in Colorado who headed out last night ready to enjoy “The Dark Knight Rises” at the local multiplex, surrounded by fellow movie lovers. They were seeking the joy and fun of a communal experience, of being swept up in a story told on a massive screen; instead, they got a nightmare, from which some of them will never awaken. My heart goes out today to the family and friends of the victims, to the wounded, and to the survivors. I hope all of us, as we gather this weekend — whether at the movies, at a friend’s home, at church, at a park — take a moment to think of them, and remember to enjoy each other.
