“The Silver Linings Playbook” beginning Oscar march?

(The other day I was on the freeway and noticed a car in the next lane that had a bumper sticker that read “Get Off the Phone and Drive,” or something to that effect. The guy driving it was talking on his cellphone. I feel compelled to share this for some reason.)
Back from a couple of days off, and wanted to note that David O. Russell’s delightful comedy/drama (a genre that almost never works, but blends together like cake and ice cream here) won the prestigious People’s Choice award at the Toronto International Film Festival, which ended Sunday. This doesn’t necessarily mean much of anything (last year’s winner was “Where Do We Go Now?,” which didn’t get much post-TIFF interest), but then again, maybe it does. “The King’s Speech” won the award in 2010; it went on to win everything else in awards season. Ditto for “Slumdog Millionaire” in 2008. So, keep an eye out for this film; I didn’t meet a soul in Toronto who didn’t love it (and that included myself). It opens in Seattle around Thanksgiving.
