‘Hitchcock,’ ‘Gatsby’: odds and ends, for the weekend

Feels like fall today, doesn’t it? A few stray bits and bobs, for the weekend:
— A late arrival to the Oscar race: Fox Searchlight emailed an announcement yesterday that “Hitchcock,” based on the book “Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of ‘Psycho'” was being moved up to a late November release. I’ve been keeping an eye out for this film, because of its intriguing cast: Anthony Hopkins as Hitch, Helen Mirren as his wife Alma, Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh (star of “Psycho”) . It’s directed by Sacha Gervasi, who made the charming documentary “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” a few years back. Definitely looking forward to this one.
— Baz Luhrmann’s 3D “The Great Gatsby,” yanked from its December date some weeks ago, now has a real date: May 10, 2013. This fills out the blockbuster slate for that month, which also includes “Iron Man 3″ on May 3,”Star Trek: Into Darkness” on the 17th, and “The Hangover: Part 3” on the 24th. Hmm; nice to have at least one May movie that’s not a sequel, isn’t it?
— For all of you needing a “Downton Abbey” fix: here’s the cast, talking about the arrival of Shirley MacLaine. Somebody get me a footstool and a fan.
