Last night’s BAFTAs

The British Academy of Film and Television Awards, i.e. BAFTA and virtually always a far better show than the Oscars, took place last night in London, hosted by the incomparable Stephen Fry:

Best speech of the evening: Daniel Day-Lewis won for best actor for “Lincoln”) (inexplicably presented to him by Sarah Jessica Parker in a jumpsuit; is she auditioning to be a Bond Girl?), and was as charming as ever:

Don’t peak before the Oscars, Daniel; we’re counting on you. In other BAFTA news: George Clooney has a beard, and “Argo” took best picture and best director. Is it unbeatable on Oscar night? We shall see.
