Alan Rickman to direct Kate Winslet
OK, I was going to write something about all this retro “Star Wars” news, but it’s just getting too confusing. In a nutshell: Supposedly Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford are returning for the next “Star Wars” go-round, according to George Lucas, even though Fisher’s publicist yesterday said it was a joke. Anyway, we’ll worry about that once it’s all sorted out. More interestingly (and more confirmed-ly): Colonel Brandon will direct Marianne Dashwood, no, wait, I mean Alan Rickman will direct Kate Winslet in “A Little Chaos,” a delightful-sounding British romantic comedy about “rival landscape gardeners who are competing to design a fountain at Versailles for Louis XIV.” Matthias Schoenaerts (of “Rust and Bone”) and Rickman will co-star. The velvet-toned Rickman, known to a generation as Professor Snape of Hogwarts, is slowly directing his way through the “Sense and Sensibility” cast; his previous directorial effort was “The Winter Guest” in 1997, starring Emma Thompson.
