On a break, until ‘Mad Men’

Happy April Fool’s day, all! I’m heading out of here on vacation until April 11, and that’s no joke — but watch this space for the return of Mad Men Mondays on April 8. I’ve watched the first episode of the new season and won’t say a word until we’ve all had a chance to view it — but here’s just one hint: Watch for, and ponder, the return of the Kodak Carousel. Remember that pitch in Season 1, when Don turned his broken marriage into a picture-perfect commercial for a product, poetically telling Kodak executives about nostalgia, and that their slide projector “takes us to a place where we ache to go again”? (And that poor Harry Crane was so overcome with emotion, he had to leave the room.) Remember that pitch — and that projector — on Sunday, and we’ll talk Monday.

Here’s the scene; I remember it took my breath away then, and still does.

(By the way: my apologies for the new format of the comments, noted by AnnieMc last week, which makes it impossible to know whether new comments have been added without clicking to the comments page. I registered a complaint when the change was made, and hope that we’ll see a difference soon.)
