70mm festival coming to Cinerama

The chances of seeing a movie even in 35mm these days is becoming rare . . . so an entire festival of 70mm films is, for those who love that format, a unique treat. Cinerama has just announced the titles for this year’s 70mm film festival, to run September 13-29: “Vertigo” (ahhh), “Baraka,” “Lawrence of Arabia,” “2001: A Space Odyssey,” “The Sound of Music,” “Patton,” “Hamlet,” “Spartacus,” “How the West Was Won,” “This Is Cinerama,” and possibly an additional title or two (a few dates still are “tba”). Individual tickets, at $13 each, are already on sale at www.cinerama.com; I’m waiting to hear if series passes will be available. This festival doesn’t happen often (it’s been two years since the last edition) and shouldn’t be missed.
