As I scurry to get ready to head out to the Toronto International Film Festival tomorrow (next post will likely be from there), here’s a minor distraction: the first trailer for Season 4 of “Downton Abbey,” which will begin airing on British TV and on various mysterious sites this fall, and here on PBS in (sigh) January. Anyway, things seem to have gone all “Great Gatsby” over at Downton, what with the contemporary music playing over the credits; perhaps they’ll be going to 3D as well. Things race by pretty quickly (though we start off with a nice scene between the newly widowed Mary and the Dowager Countess, who implores her grieving granddaughter to “choose life”), but from what I can tell: many people will kiss this season, some will laugh, some will cry, tea will be consumed, and everyone’s hair and outfits will look very nice indeed. In other words, business as usual, but without Matthew and Sybil. Ah well.
