As some of you may know, the Ark Lodge Cinemas (formerly Columbia City Cinemas) is about to celebrate its first anniversary. Operator David McRae, who has a long history in the Seattle cinema business, re-opened the theater in early December of last year after completing some long-needed improvements to the building. I heard from McRae this week, who told me that he’s lived in Seattle’s South End for more than 30 years, that owning and running the theater has been a highlight of his life, and that he’s getting great support from the Columbia City neighborhood. But he’d like to attract a little more business (fixing those sprinklers was expensive), so he’s got a great offer for holiday gift-givers: Between now and the end of the year, anyone who buys an Ark Lodge Cinema gift card for $25 or more will have an additional 25 per cent of value added to it (i.e. buy a $25 card and it will be worth $31.25 in admissions and/or concessions). Go to the Ark Lodge Facebook page for more details, or drop by the theater box office at 4816 Rainier Ave. S., Seattle. It’s a good deal, and a great way to support a neighborhood theater.
