Here at P&P, we (which is to say me) like to make a fuss over Michael Caine’s birthday every March 14. Because, really, who doesn’t love Sir Michael? He’s 81 years old today, and still going strong: IMDB lists seven as yet unreleased 2014/2015 movies Caine’s shot, or will shoot, or is rumored to be shooting. (One that’s for sure: Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar,” coming this fall.) Caine, who’s been making movies since the 1950s, has a total of 160 screen credits; some classics, some forgotten. I haven’t seen all of them, of course, but thought I’d list ten of my favorite Michael Caine performances, in alphabetical order:
- “Alfie” (1966)
- Batman Begins (2005)
- The Cider House Rules (1999)
- Educating Rita (1983)
- Get Carter (1971)
- Hannah and Her Sisters (1986)
- Harry Brown (2009)
- The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
- The Italian Job (1969)
- The Quiet American (2002)
And what’s your favorite?
Of course, no tribute to Michael Caine is complete without this.
Happy birthday, Sir Michael, and many happy returns.
