Popcorn & Prejudice: A Movie Blog

Today’s read: An oral history of “Ghostbusters”

It’s been thirty years — thirty years — since a lot of us first heard “Who ya gonna call?” and met the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. For the fans, and for anyone needing to kill time today, here’s a lengthy but delightful Vanity Fair piece about the making of the film. Something I didn’t know, but found charming: the characters of Venkman (Bill Murray), Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Spengler (Harold Ramis) were thought of as, respectively, the Scarecrow, the Lion, and the Tin Man. Now I’m going to have to watch the movie again. (That doesn’t make Sigourney Weaver Dorothy, does it?)

Updated to add: “Ghostbusters” will have a special 30th anniversary theatrical re-release on August 29th, a few weeks ahead of the special-edition Blu-ray.
