So, can Allison Williams sing?

I will admit to a sort of morbid fascination with NBC’s current live-musical craze. “The Sound of Music,” last December, was mesmerizing in its sometimes-great (Audra McDonald) and sometimes-terrible (you know whose acting I’m talking about) earnestness, and now we have “Peter Pan Live!,” complete with exclamation point, coming up this December — with its leading role played by Allison Williams, as announced just this morning. (Alas, Kristen Bell — who could have sung the hell out of the role —  wasn’t available.) So, Marnie as Peter Pan . . . let’s all get our heads around this. She’s been known to sing on “Girls,” but not in the kind of full-out musical theater voice she’d need here. Here she is singing the “Mad Men” theme:

And here, just for fun, is Mary Martin, in what I believe is the 1960 NBC broadcast of “Peter Pan.”

Think lovely thoughts, everyone.
