OK, Austenites, this one’s for you: Whit Stillman (“The Last Days of Disco,” “Damsels in Distress”) is about to begin filming a new Jane Austen adaptation called “Love and Friendship,” based on Austen’s novella “Lady Susan,” published after her death. (Not be confused with “Love and Freindship” — and yes, it’s a mispelling — which was a story Austen wrote at the age of 14.) The film, set in 1790 and shooting in Ireland, stars Kate Beckinsale as the title character, a beautiful widow in search of a husband. Also in the film are Chloe Sevigny (yes, it’s a “Last Days of Disco” reunion) as Lady Susan’s friend and confidante Alicia, and the incomparable Stephen Fry as Alicia’s long-suffering husband. Sounds like fun, no?
