A romantic-movie sampler, for Valentine’s Day

Looking for something to watch on Valentine’s weekend, with the one you love? Here are a handful of suggestions. I love all of these movies, but maybe have left out your favorite; chime in with a comment if you’d like to add a title. Happy Valentine’s Day, all!

Romantic Comedies

Oh, so many. Tried and true: “Clueless,” “When Harry Met Sally,” “Moonstruck,” “Roxanne,” “Groundhog Day,” “Sense and Sensibility,” “Amelie,” “Say Anything.”  Classics: “Roman Holiday,” “The Lady Eve,” “Bringing Up Baby,” “Bachelor Mother” (this one, starring Ginger Rogers, is a rarity; it’s adorable), “My Man Godfrey.” Recent charmers: “Moonrise Kingdom,” “Ruby Sparks,” “Enough Said,” “Liberal Arts,” “Crazy Stupid Love,” “(500) Days of Summer.”

Romantic Dramas

“The Deep Blue Sea,” “Rebecca,” “Before Sunrise,” “Bright Star,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “I Know Where I’m Going,” “Jane Eyre,” “Brokeback Mountain,” “Vertigo,” “The Fabulous Baker Boys,” “In the Mood for Love.”

Romantic Musicals

“Swing Time” (really, any Astaire/Rogers film), “Once,” “Moulin Rouge,” “Romance & Cigarettes” (bonus: James Gandolfini!), “Singin’ in the Rain,” “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.”
