Rant&Rave: Help for stranded drivers

RAVE To the young couple who helped this senior couple on Highway 2 when we were pulled over with a flat tire. There was no cellphone service in the narrow canyon and these wonderful people drove to Leavenworth to call AAA, then drove back to tell us that help was on the way before continuing their journey east, helping us out of a really tough situation.

RANT To the lowlife who stole the tip jar at Fainting Goat Gelato while the young employee was very busy so she didn’t see when someone took her tips. The place was full of families, did no one notice?

RAVE To the young woman ahead of me in line at Safeway, who impulsively swept up my muffin and milk to pay for with her own groceries, saying “I’ve been missing my grandma so much today, and it’s just the sort of treat she would have gotten herself.” You couldn’t have known it, but I’ve been missing someone deeply too, and this warm, reaching-out gesture shifted the balance of my day. Thank you so much.

RANT AND RAVE Rant to the person who stole the one-of-a-kind, carved wood raccoon with blue glass eyes off our front porch. I’m sure it means nothing to you but we bought it on our wedding anniversary and would love to have it back. Rave to anyone who can help us find it!

RAVE AND RANT Rave to the 5th Avenue and ACT Theaters for delivering great and cutting edge shows in Seattle for decades. Rant to the clueless people who show up for these special events in faded old jeans, crummy T-shirts and even backpacks as if they just crawled out of the woods. Grow up and show some respect for the investments local benefactors make to keep major talent employed here in the Northwest.

RANT AND RAVE Rant to the insensitive driver who parked in the handicapped-parking space a foot away from my wheelchair van, across the no-parking markings so that I couldn’t lower my ramp to wheel in, and rave to the restaurant owner that hunted down the culprit to make him move.

RAVE For businesses, especially grocery and convenience stores, that maintain their sidewalks and planting strips, picking up litter and sweeping the perimeter of their businesses. Waste and recycling receptacles are a bonus.

RAVE AND RANT Rave to the Seattle Animal Shelter for opening their office on a day that the shelter was normally closed to take in a lost kitty. Rant to pet owners who don’t have their pets implanted with an ID microchip.

RAVE To everyone who donates blood; I need blood transfusions every few weeks and without people donating blood, I wouldn’t be here.
