Rant & Rave

Times readers share their encounters with the good and the bad.

RAVE To the team of kind and efficient EMTs who arrived less than five minutes after my neighbor found me unconscious after suffering multiple yellow jacket stings while gardening. They treated me for shock, told me I was going to be fine, carried me downstairs and had me in the emergency room in what seemed like no time. Rave to my neighbor Sally, who found me, called 911and  my husband and daughter and took care of our dogs. Another rave to the team at Swedish Hospital, who were reassuring, kind and  competent. I’m so lucky and grateful.

RANT To the woman and her young son, in a relatively new, nice SUV, who stopped by our church and helped themselves to produce from our street-side gardens. Our gardens have provided 200 pounds of produce for local food banks this summer and we’re pleased to be able to share it with those in need, but she didn’t appear to be one.

RAVE To the guardian angel/caring stranger who used Fed Ex to quickly return our disabled adult son’s lost wallet. He was excited to open the small package mailed to him with his wallet!

RANT Dog owners, please keep your dogs outside of businesses, especially restaurants.  I was leaving a restaurant with a dog splayed on the floor blocking the pathway that stood up and growled at me as I walked toward the exit; very frightening. Please don’t assume that everyone wants to be in the company of your dog in a public place; many people have allergies, fear of dogs or simply don’t like them.  Shame on businesses, particularly cafes and restaurants, that allow people to bring in their (nonservice) animals, putting customers at risk and unease.

RAVE To the lady at Walmart who heard us ask a clerk if he could bring an item from the back of the store, since my husband and I are elderly with a walker and a cane. She offered to go get it, then paid for it too, saying she didn’t have any family to take care of and was happy to  help someone.

RANT To drivers who don’t stop for school buses. Since school started I’ve seen numerous cars zip past yellow buses with flashing lights and the “Stop” sign out. Kids need to get to and from school safely. Soon kids will have to get to school in the dark and rain. Please be careful!

RAVE To Seattle Asian Art museum for the wonderful Deco Japan exhibit, loved it! It closes Oct. 19.

RAVE AND RANT Rave to Frankie Valli, 80-year-old musical icon, who gave a wonderful performance at Chateau Ste. Michelle. Rant to the parking officials who kept  drivers creeping along for a half an hour just to get into the parking lot. Big girls may not cry, but this guy was crying for thirty minutes!
