RAVE While leaving the casino in Tokeland, I commented to a woman how much I liked the jacket she was wearing. She thanked me, then while getting into her car, yelled across the parking lot: “Here, try it on!” She walked over, jacket in hand, I tried it on, it fit, and she said, “It’s yours.” I hit the jackpot!
RANT To the frustrated dad in the public library: If shushing your 5-year-old for five minutes didn’t stop him from yelling and screaming, don’t waste the next half-hour shushing him. Either take him to a playground to release some energy, or take him outside the library for a timeout so he can understand there’s a consequence if he yells and screams inside. Either way, do everyone a favor and do something.
RAVE To the honest driver who left contact information after backing into my parked car, causing $1,300 damage. When I called he was apologetic, provided his insurance information and repairs are scheduled. I’m lucky and grateful it wasn’t a hit-and-run.
RANT To the person who took the bike out of my carport that belonged to a homeless man doing yard work for me. Shame on you for bringing a grown man to tears, taking his only possession and only means of transportation to get to any job.
RAVE AND RANT Rave to the large grocery store chain that offers one day a month discounts to senior citizens. Rant to the same stores that require that you remember that day and request the discount without any reminders from the cashier. CEO: Your “senior days” will come!
RANT To irresponsible people who leave trash in a campsite. Nobody wants to pick your trash out of the fire pit or your toilet paper out of the bushes. Please pick up and pack up your trash when you leave.
RAVE AND RANT Rave to my neighbors who regularly mow and clean the City Light right of way near the Interurban Trail, the walkers who enjoy a safe, green place and the dog walkers who pick up after their pets. Rant to the guy who drove up, pulled out a big garbage can and dumped it, yelling: “I can dump this wherever I want. Nobody owns this.”
RANT To banks and credit unions for not being able to process a direct deposit on weekends or evenings but can post withdrawals at any time. If we can’t get our money, why can you?
RAVE For Shelley, the clinic nurse at the adult day center, who blends efficient, competent care with good humor and great compassion, dealing with a challenging variety of clients and managing to make them all feel special.
