Rant&Rave: Remembering a dear pet

RAVE To the wonderful staff at the critical care veterinary hospital, who showed such kindness and compassion in caring for my faithful friend, my poor sick dog, during his last hours on this earth. They sent me his paw print and some locks of his beautiful hair. My heartfelt thanks for helping me through my grief.

RANT  To the mom who was plugged in and ignoring her 4-year-old, who screamed, fussed and kicked my seat during an entire recent flight. When the plane was landing she became very sweet toward the child, who then calmed down. As the plane skidded to a halt the mom reminded the child they were going on a 12-hour international flight in a few weeks. Good luck to the unfortunate person sitting in front of them then. I didn’t want to spark an incident by speaking up but I probably should have. Parents, supervise your kids in public spaces!

RAVE AND RANT Rave to friends and family celebrating our son’s wedding, what a great time! Rant to all those who RSVP’d “Yes,” then didn’t show up; the excuses we heard weren’t health-related, just rude. Lots of money spent on food gone to waste.

RAVE <To the pest control guy who arrived at my home at a crisis moment with my middle-school son, who was refusing to go to school. This amazing gentleman offered to speak with him and spoke forcefully but kindly about his own experience with truancy and how it affected his life. His words were so wonderful I cried. Within 10 minutes, my son had his backpack on and was headed to school, thanks to this golden individual who took the effort to make a lasting difference in someone’s life. As the saying goes, “It takes a village.”

RANT AND RAVE Rant to whoever stole my fiance’s car. Now our hard earned money we were saving for our wedding has to be spent on a new car, and we can’t afford to visit out-of-town family and friends for the holidays.   Rave to all the people and officers helping and searching, especially the strangers from Facebook.

RAVE >To the man who found my wallet in the parking lot at Costco and drove it to our house. People like you restore our faith in society. Bless you.

RANT AND RAVE Rant to those who prey on the elderly with scams. Rave to the Seattle U.S. Postal Inspection Services for working to prevent scams, in our case, to track and stop an expensive mailing.

RAVE To the local community of neighbors who  decorated their homes with beautiful Christmas lights along their street to fulfill a dying man’s bucket list. What great people you are!
