The peak of the Lower Columbia spring chinook fishery could happen this weekend.
“There was a pretty good bite [Thursday] around Davis Bar down to Cathlamet, and we’ve got a bunch of fish moving through the lower river right now,” said Joe Hymer, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist. “With the higher water the fish have also moved into the shallow water areas. I heard it was also really good fishing in the Willamette Slough itself, and the Willamette River had a decent opener too.”
The fishery below Hayden Island is open today until Saturday, and then closes for the season. The area from Hayden Island up to Bonneville Dam is open Wednesdays to Saturdays through April 22.
