There was an award handed out on Monday that definitely goes to one well deserving charter captain in Puget Sound.
KING 5 Evening Magazine’s Northwest Best announced that Captain Gary Krein owner of All-Star Charters in Everett was voted the Best Fishing Charter in Western Washington.
Krein, who has been a fishing charter boat operator in Puget Sound for 25 years, didn’t even realize he was nominated by the TV station until about a month ago when one of his clients called him to let him know. This is the first year that KING 5 had a category for Best Fishing Charter.
“I got to where I am at in my business by having lots of friends and good relationships with people,” Krein said. “After you get older like me all those things are more important than making a buck in any business, and because people do respect and know that you do a good job.”
Krein is also an advocate in the annual salmon fishing season setting process by being a key state Fish and Wildlife sport fishing advisory board member. Part of the job is to try and get the most out of a salmon fishing season while yet protecting the wild salmon resources in Washington.
This summer marks a time when anglers will see a much more liberal fishing season in Puget Sound thanks in part to Krein and other fellow members of the sport fishing board and industry.
