I’m going for my fourth and fifth trips in my quest for Five Fishing Trips in 10 Days starting at 3 a.m. Thursday and ending on Friday afternoon.
I’ll be loading the crab pots with bait to set them somewhere in Puget Sound as I head north to Point No Point for chance at catching a hatchery king salmon.
I heard that the fishing has picked up in recent days and this bodes well for what is expected to be a widely popular fishery in central and northern Puget Sound [Areas 9 and 10] for hatchery-marked chinook.
Unlike the past couple of years when this fishery had a catch quota, this summer there will be a catch guideline, and fishing should hold strong right through August as a wall of kings has been massing between Sekiu and the San Juan Islands. Some of those should definitely be heading into Puget Sound.
I’ll fill folks in on how I do over the next couple of days after I get in during the later afternoon.
