Orvis fly casting competition held in Bend, Oregon next month

Come test your fly casting skills at the Orvis National Casting Competition Sept. 18-20 at the Old Mill in Bend, Oregon.

The event will be held on the first-of-its-kind 18-hole fly casting course, which was completed last year and located adjacent to the Orvis Bend retail store.

The course was designed to test and improve fly casting skills in a variety of settings much like those anglers would find in actual fishing conditions.

“The casting course was designed for fun, education, and to provide an opportunity to practice essential casting skills before going fishing or during the offseason” said Hutch Hutchinson tournament caster, course designer and Regional Business Manager for The Orvis Company.

During the competition, accuracy and distance skills will be tested at selected holes on the course.

Cost is $25. Only 76 competitors are allowed per division and are entered on a first-come, first-served basis until all slots are filled.

Dates: Sept. 18, men’s and women’s amateur casting division; Sept. 19, men’s advanced casting division; and Sept. 20, women’s advanced ladies casting division.
