Goose Lake in southwest Washington gets plant of cutthroat

Fall is knocking on our door, and this tiny lake nestled in southwest Washington not only offers good fishing both for gear and fly anglers but the fields in the area are good for picking berries.

Goose Lake is a tiny 58-acre lake in Skamania County was planted on Sept. 16 with about 1,800 coastal cutthroat trout that average 1.5 pounds apiece, and is located 13 miles north of Carson between the southeast corner of Indian Heaven Wilderness and Big Lava Bed.

“Should be an awesome fall fishery until the snow falls,” said John Weinheimer, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist.

Small boat may be launched in the forest service campground. The area also offers some pretty good blue and huckleberry picking in September.
