Columbia River Ringold steelhead fishery still kicking out fish

Here is the latest report on the Ringold steelhead fishery by state Fish and Wildlife:

An estimated 148 steelhead were caught this past week at Ringold. Of these, 115 hatchery steelhead were harvested and 27 wild steelhead were caught and released. Angler effort remained high during the week but slowed on the weekend due to high winds in the area. Bank anglers catch dropped this week but the boat anglers continued to do well. Bank anglers averaged 20 hours per steelhead this past week and boat anglers averaged 6.5 hours per steelhead.

The Ringold Springs Rearing Facility operated the trap on November 18. A total of 281 steelhead have been captured at the trap and 226 hatchery origin steelhead have been caudal clipped and transported to the Ringold launch for release back to the river. State Fish and Wildlife staff is monitoring the sport fishery for these clipped steelhead to evaluate their contribution to the fishery. An estimated 35 caudal clipped steelhead have been harvested to date, 15% of the trap released hatchery origin steelhead.
