Roche Harbor Salmon Derby off to a slow start compared to last year

photo.jpg

The first day of the Roche Harbor Salmon Derby ended with 31 fished weighed-in for 29 anglers on a beautiful calm day on the water.

The consensus was that fishing was rather on the slow side, but don’t tell Raymond Fancois of Mt. Vernon who holds the lead with a 16.4 pound hatchery chinook.

That 31 fish figure compares to 66 fish weighed in on day one last year.

The race for best total boat weight ($2,000 cash award) is as follows:

Boat #37, Team Holman, 25.8 pounds; Boat#11, Team Chevalier, 12.7; Boat#48, Team Lawson, 18.14; Boat#52, Team McAuley, 18.0; Boat #66, Team Olson, 16.4.

The leading women angler is Jennifer Payne of Friday Harbor with a 10.2 pound hatchery chinook.

The final day of the derby is Saturday, Feb. 6.
