It took only 10 days for the Anacortes Salmon Derby to sell out of 1,000 tickets for their upcoming event on March 27-28.
The Fidalgo Chapter of the Puget Sound Anglers are hosts of the derby at the Cap Sante Boat Haven.
The record time sales came with an increase of 200 tickets over the 800 tickets which were sold out in two weeks last year.
“The derby committee decided to offer an extra 200 tickets this year based on previous demand,” derby Chairman, Jay Field said in a news release.
This family friendly event is part of the Northwest Salmon Derby Series, and boasts $25,000 in cash prizes and thousands more prizes in merchandise.
The grand prize for the largest fish is $15,000 followed by $5,000 for 2nd, $2,500 for 3rd, and $2,500 for the Secret Weight fish.
Special categories include a woman’s division, youth division, and winning prizes for active military and those over 70 years of age.
The proceeds from this derby fund scholarships to benefit young adults pursuing a career in fisheries and related science. The club disbursed over $20,000 in scholarship money last year.
