Reporters fishing trip off Westport good for rockfish and lingcod

IMG_2030.JPG

Well now I’ve got two of my Top Five Spring Fishing Trips under my belt, and on Friday I found myself heading out of Westport across the flat calm bar on the charter boat Slammer skippered by Rhett Weber of Deep Sea Charters.

It felt like a nice summer day as we headed north along the shoreline. After making a one and half hour trek we found ourselves in water 120 feet deep.

The black rockfish were plenty and we got our limit for 12 anglers in less than a few hours along with a couple other species of rockfish and two lingcod.

Then it was off to the lingcod holes where we ended up with 13 lingcod up to 25 pounds.

My other two trips that didn’t happen this week were a Puget Sound lingcod/halibut trip that high winds prevented us from fishing earlier this past week, and tomorrow (May 9) I was supposed to go bass fishing in Lake Washington, but my fishing friend’s truck broke down.

Hopefully I will be able to make those final two trips, and I plan to write a more in-depth story about my bottomfishing trip later this week.

Stay tuned…
