The Washington Tuna Classic was held on Saturday (Aug. 7) out of Westport, and the catches were pretty good.
At daybreak 33 vessels left port with a crew of four to six anglers, and most trekked 45 to 75 miles into the ocean to seek out the albacore tuna on relatively flat, calm water.
The tuna were 13 to 34 pounds, and the average weight was 25 pounds with the entire catch being donated to the Northwest Harvest Food Bank. Entry fees went to Wounded Warriors and local veteran hospitals.
