Chinook and coho bite on the rise at Buoy-10 sport fishery

Sport catches around Buoy-10 at the Lower Columbia River mouth continues to gain steam.

Here are the preliminary sport catches by numbers:

Aug 1-15: 8,500 anglers caught 500 chinook and 100 hatchery-marked coho.

Aug 16-18: 4,400 anglers caught 1,450 chinook and 700 hatchery-marked coho.

Total catch estimate Aug 1-18 is 12,900 anglers with 1,950 chinook and 800 hatchery-marked coho.

The chinook and coho allocation should be 12,500 (16 percent taken) and 11,900 fish (7 percent taken), respectively. Percent of allocation taken through Aug. 18 remains unchanged.

Fishery scheduled to be open for chinook retention through August 31. Coho and steelhead (hatchery fish) retention is scheduled to remain open throughout the fall season.
