Ocean and Buoy-10 salmon fisheries remain highlight of the week

The ocean salmon fisheries remain fairly good for a mix of chinook and hatchery coho, and the Buoy-10 fishery at the Columbia River mouth remains fair to very good.

Through Tuesday, Aug. 24, an estimated 29,400 anglers have kept 4,300 chinook and 3,600 hatchery coho. That is 34-percent of the 12,500 chinook allocation, and 30 percent of the 11,900 hatchery coho allocation.

Here are the coastal port catches by the numbers:

Ilwaco: 7,913 anglers Aug. 16-22 caught 2,039 chinook (57.0 percent of the catch quota of 10,600) and 5,696 hatchery coho (49.8 of 37,100). Westport: 2,918 anglers Aug. 16-22 caught 1,670 chinook (71.8 of 28,000) and 404 hatchery coho (24.9 of 27,450).

La Push: 534 anglers Aug. 16-22 caught 111 chinook (36.8 of 2,450) and 284 hatchery coho (46.5 of 1,880). Neah Bay: 1,128 anglers Aug. 16-22 caught 405 chinook (36.8 of 5,400) and 284 hatchery coho (46.5 of 7,720).

Coastwide: 12,493 anglers Aug. 16-22 caught 4,225 chinook (64.4 of 46,500) and 7,019 hatchery coho (41.3 of 74,200).
