Winter steelhead returns good in Southwest Washington rivers

Winter hatchery steelhead returns through the first week of this month have been fairly good compared to last year.

Despite higher flows and turbidity, fishing in the Cowlitz River has also been productive with 214 boat anglers catching 68 steelhead, and 157 bankies catching 22, mainly around the trout hatchery. There have also been some coho caught around the salmon hatchery.

In the Elochoman River, 45 steelhead have returned to compared to zero in 2009.

In the Cowlitz River, 547 steelhead have returned to compared to 467 in 2009.

In the Kalama River, 97 steelhead have returned to compared to 69 in 2009.

In the Lewis River, 454 steelhead have returned to compared to 32 in 2009.

In the Washougal River, 156 steelhead have returned to compared to 135 in 2009.
