State Fish and Wildlife has announced tentative coastal razor clam digs over the next couple of months.

The first dig will be from noon to midnight on March 19, and then switch to morning hours (12:01 a.m. to noon) on March 20-22. Digging will be allowed March 19-20 at Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis and Mocrocks, and then March 21-22 at Long Beach and Twin Harbors.

“We’re planning this opening at the time of year when the best tides for digging razor clams switch from the evening to the morning,” Dan Ayres, a state Fish and Wildife coastal shellfish manager said in a news release. “It’s a little tricky from a scheduling standpoint, but it does provide an opportunity for back-to-back digs the evening of Saturday, March 19, and the morning of Sunday, March 20.”

There is also an Ocean Shores Razor Clam Festival which includes a chowder cook-off and more on March 19.

Another dig is also planned for April 7-9 at Long Beach and Twin Harbors only.

Low tides: March 19, minus-0.1 feet at 7:04 p.m.; March 20, -0.5 at 7:36 a.m.; March 21, -0.9 at 8:23 a.m.; March 22, -1.0 at 9:12 a.m.; April 7, 0.1 at 9:37 a.m.; April 8, 0.2 at 10:19 a.m.; and April 9, 0.4 at 11:07 a.m.

Kalaloch Beach will remain closed to razor-clam digging until further notice for an assessment of the clam population.

More digs are also planned later this spring.
